I wouldn't say we started the site because of family issues. Certainly our parents would rather us have been married <em>before</em> having a child together, but thankfully for us it hasn't caused any strain in the family. The website, to me anyway, is more of a statement. Neither Liz nor I are very traditional. There is definitely a stigma in this country regarding children out of wedlock, and we are simply announcing that this isn't an issue for us. Marriage is a piece of paper. The absence of that piece of paper doesn't reflect any lack of maturity, responsibility, love or respect for ourselves or others, and especially not for our child. This website is a proclamation that our child <em>is</em> technically illegitimate, but that we embrace her with just as much love and affection as any married couple (and I'm sure moreso than many married couples). Deviating from cultural norms isn't bad, it's just different. And most people would tell you that Liz and I are just that - different. We do plan to get married at some point, but had no intentions of getting married simply because we were having a child. When the time is right, there is no doubt in my mind that everything will fall into place. I truly hope everything works out for you and your family. It's very important that your wife realizes that even though these are not <em>her</em> ideal circumstances, it is happening, there is nothing that can be done about it, and now more than ever, regardless of any circumstance, your son is going to need the unconditional love and support of his family. My son and his girlfriend (hopefully will marry) are having a baby in 2 weeks (or sooner). I am a first time grandparent. Did you start this because of family issues? My wife is having a hard time with it and will not communicate with the baby's mother and states shoe will not go to the hospital. I may not like how this has happened, but I support my son, his girlfriend and their new son. Any suggestions as this is putting a strain on my marriage. Best of luck with your new family!
